Fine Motor Skills

Before we started handwriting this year we did lots of fine motor skills practice during stations time in the morning. We were threading, pegging, building, using links, beading and practiced holding our pencils and scissors correctly.

Bike Week

This week we learned all about Bike Safety and wearing our helmets. We learned about cycling with an adult and wearing bright clothes that help cars on the road to see us.

Aistear - The Costume Shop

This week for Aistear we did the costume shop. We too turns working as shop assistants, managers, staff on the till and customers. We were excellent at using questioning vocabulary during drama, to ask for different sizes and enquire about ordering costumes for certain ages and interests. We were modeling Halloween shapes and following instructions with playdough and for messy play we made potions with lots of water and glitter and used our imaginations to decide what our potions would do! We also built haunted house, witches brooms, cauldrons and other Halloween items at the construction station.

'P' is for Party!

When we finished our first set of Jolly Phonics we celebrated all we had learned by having a 'P' party! We had Popcorn, Pastilles and even some PINK milk!

We love the OT yard!

We have loved getting out on the OT yard in the fine weather. Each week we are getting more and more confident using the equipment and showing off our skills!

We are ARTISTS in Junior Infants!

We have been doing lots of art since we started school in September. Here is some of the creations we made. We used cotton buds to paint our turtles, we learned that this is called 'pointillism'. We also learned about colours in Autumn and used our fingers to paint some autumn trees.

Aistear - The Supermarket

The theme of Aistear this week was The Supermarket. We learned about all the different sections in the supermarket and the different roles that people may have; the customer, the cashier, the shop assistant and the baker. We loved taking on different roles during drama, shopping in our very own supermarket at school. We browsed the Super Valu catalogues to create a trolley of groceries for our weekly shop. We also used building materials to build some supermarkets and the sections within them.

Look at us beginning to read!

We love learning new sounds in Junior Infants. We know lots of sounds now and we are starting to blend them together to read words! Look how clever we are making and reading words in our velcro folders.

Maths Comparisons

We have been learning lots about comparisons in Maths. We used materials in the classroom to help our learning. We learned about things that are big and small, long and short, tall and short, narrow and wide, rough and smooth.

Science Week

We loved being scientists and doing lots of experiments at school. We learned about first making a prediction and then carrying out our experiments to see what we could discover and to check if our guess was right. We learned abou floating and sinking, how water dissolves sugar and making wellies for Teddy by testing materials to see what was waterproof.

The weather forecast by Junior Infants - AS GAEILGE!

We have learned all about the different types of weather since starting school in September. We are now so clever we can even do the weather in IRISH! Listen to us tell you about the weather today.

Rhymes and songs

We learn lots of rhymes, songs and poems in Junior Infants. We are really proud of ourselves being able to perform them with so much energy. We hope you enjoy watching them!

Aistear - The Restaurant

We have been learning about the restaurant during Aistear. We have all enjoyed taking on different roles as the chef, the waiter/waitress and the customer. We learned about the different courses we might have in a restaurant and that we order from a menu, speaking politely giving our order and asking questions of the waiter/waitress. We also used playdough to model foods that we might eat during the different courses. We really enjoyed building restaurants too at the construction station.

Aistear - Santa's Workshop

Aistear is so exciting this fortnight! We all got such a surprise when we came into school to find Santa's Workshop all set up. We are busy taking on the roles of Santa; building and packing toys, Mrs. Clause; baking, cleaning and helping the elves in the workshop, the elves; making toys, wrapping parcels and feeding the reindeer! It is a very busy in the workshop this time of year! We are also having lots of fun using glitter to decorate personalised baubles for our Christmas trees.
