Happy New Year
We would like to wish all our students, parents, guardians and staff a very Happy New Year. We hope that the year ahead is full of happiness, health and peace.
Christmas Fundraising
In the run up to Christmas our Student Council wanted to organise a fundraiser to help those in need. A number of charities were put forward from the class council meetings, with Children's Services at Cork University Hospital being mentioned in almost all. The Student Council took the decision to fundraise for this worthy charity by holding a Book & Bake Sale. This event was held just before the Christmas holidays and it was very successful and enjoyable. The total raised for Children's Services at Cork University Hospital was €1156.20. Well done to the Student Council and to all who donated books and baking and of course to those who bought the books and delicious treats on the day. Your support is very much appreciated.
5th and 6th Class Carol Singing at Amberley Nursing Home, Fermoy
Christmas performances at Scoil Mhuire
Sixth Class performed 'It's a Census Get Me Out of Here' for our Christmas concert in the church. First to fifth class supported them with a song each and then everyone came together for Christmas carols to close the night. Well done all.
Junior and senior infants sang their hearts out at a day time performance in our Community Hall
Our traditional music group played to welcome parents, families and guests at both the church and hall.
Maths Workshop from Lifetime Lab
MathsWorks Mobile from Lifetime Lab visited our school in October. The workshop aims to demonstrate and explore a multisensory approach to the learning of mathematics and is a stimulating and fun introduction to primary maths, motivating pupils to engage primary maths through sight, sound, touch and movement. The workshop included a short presentation before our students participated in a series of hands on fun maths based activities covering multiplication, symmetry, problem solving and transformations.
A visit to the old school house
Mr. Ronayne and Mr. Bennett brought their classes to see the old school house in Ballyhooly village. The old school house sits at the back of a private residence on the main street in our village. Mr. Ronayne's class have been learning all about this old school and the old two-storey school that was on our current site until the 1970s.
